Congregational Prayer, July 20, 2008

Offered by Amy Staples

Heavenly Father we approach Your throne this morning in confidence that You hear our thoughts and prayers. Even those burdens that are hard for us to talk about have been whispered in Your ear by the Holy Spirit. May we remember that we have one another to lean on, and to support us in times of trouble.

We thank You for the gift of community and for our brothers and sisters and for the roles they take in our lives. Help us to be real and vulnerable with one another so that we may experience genuine community, and in our sufferings together we will find joy.

We ask that you would comfort the lonely, the outcasts, and the forgotten. Send them a friendly face and a warm smile. Be with those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, may they find peace and refuge in You. For those who are in physical pain or suffering from illnesses be their source of strength and courage. For those who are in financial distress help them to be wise and discerning in their decisions.

I have confidence Father, that You can be all things to all people, may we simply be open to the work of your hand in our lives.

We ask all these things in the name of the Triune God, AMEN.
