Opening Prayer, July 20, 2008

Offered by Amy Staples

Almighty Father,

May Your Spirit come and truly open the eyes of our hearts, that we may see more of You. Create within each of us a desire to know you more intimately. With your help may we tear down walls that we have built up around ourselves, keeping you and others out.

We thank You that you promise to complete the work that you have begun in each of us and we cling to this hope knowing that the person we are today, is not who we are meant to be. We are created in Your image and have far more potential than we can ever imagine.

I pray that we would be a people that would daily surrender ourselves to Your work and to Your purposes in our lives. May we allow ourselves to be Your hands and feet in a hurting world that is desperate for hope.

Draw us close to You Lord as we pray the way Jesus has taught us: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever, AMEN.
