Congregational Prayer - May 13, 2007 - Mother’s Day
Pastor Mary Scheer

Dear Lord:

It’s so amazing to think that you manifest your glory and power through
your Spirit pouring it out through the church. We may not often stop to
think about the way these gifts empower us. As we combine our efforts of
faith and focus in prayer, we ask you to pour out your mercy and healing
upon those who are sick this week.

I pray that you would help us to continue seeking ways to grow in the
knowledge and use of the gifts of your spirit to strengthen our bonds as
family, to build up the church and help those we can, learning from the
examples of our spiritual fathers and mothers.

On this mother’s day we thank you for another gift…the gift of mothers.
We pray for our mothers that you will bless them, walk close to them,
for their task is great and their burdens often heavy.

Give them wisdom for the million things they need to know everyday and
the problems they are asked to help solve. Give them strength for the
times they care for others when they are too exhausted to care for
themselves. Be with and comfort our mothers who are suffering the
unimaginable grief of the death of a child. Be with those who long to be
mothers yet for whom the possibility of pregnancy has been lost, comfort
them.

Be with and comfort the hearts of children of every age who are grieving
the loss of their mother this year. We pray for the special challenges
that single mothers face, we ask your protection for mothers who are
away from their families serving in a deployed setting.

Bless mothers everywhere…mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers,
empty nesting mothers, mothers yet to be, mothers who foster and mothers
by adoption, the gift they give spans generations.

Ultimately, every mother’s gift originates in you, for every good and
perfect gift we have, including the ability to love, nurture and care
for others, first came from you. You are a gift giving God, may we be
gift giving people. In Jesus Name. Amen.
