Congregational Prayer, February 17, 2008
Offered by Pastor Mary Scheer

Lord, we come to you so aware of our need and humbled by your power and grace.

Lord we thank you for your love for us, for inviting us to come to you with our prayers, thank you for the ways you have cared for us this past week.

Thank you for being with and adding your blessing to the mission team and seeing us home safely to share our stories of work, worship and… the wonderful time we had visiting with our friends at our Dominican Sister Church.

Thank you God, for your grace and mercy.

We pray for your tender mercies to be poured out upon the victims and their families of the N.I.U. shooting in DeKalb, Ill this week.  It’s so hard for us to understand when things like this senseless destruction happens.  We are reminded again how little control we have and how much we need your comfort and assurance.

We pray for those who are grieving.  We also lift up our friends who’ve been ill or had surgery this week, that you would touch them with your power and heal them, restoring them in health and strength.

Be with all who experienced the unexpected this past week, those who are facing critical issues, wrestling with a decision or seeking your direction… lead them in your will, bring them opportunity and answers.

Thank you God for hearing us as we pray, for the answers you have already issued, for your understanding and gentleness toward us, and your love that assures us we are safe in your care.  In Jesus name.  Amen.
