Greg O’Brien will speak about living with Alzheimer’s and his remarkable books, “On Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s” and the updated edition, “New Horizons: Expanded Edition.”
Greg is a well-known author and award-winning journalist who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s several years ago; the disease took his maternal grandfather, mother, paternal uncle, and before his father’s death, he too was diagnosed with Dementia.
According to David Shenk, author of New York Times bestseller, The Forgetting, “Alzheimer’s messed with the wrong man.” Instead of retreating into the shadows or forgetting, Greg brings his personal journey into the spotlight as he fights to live and work vigorously in faith, hope and humor with this dreaded and misunderstood disease.
Also on the program will be Greg’s son, Conor O’Brien speaking about his work as his Dad’s caretaker, companion and champion.
Pat Bertschy, Outreach Coordinator of the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod will speak about the services offered by the Center.
The AFSC is a non-profit organization in Brewster offering free support and counseling to families and individuals on Cape Cod living with Alzheimer’s and dementia-related diseases.
